Our Kruger Bush Camp

Plains Camp, the home of Rhino Walking Safaris

Plains Camp is an intimate trails camp in the heart of South Africa’s legendary Kruger National Park. We are privileged to exclusively explore a 12 000 hectare private concession on foot in ‘Big 5 territory’ that was not previously open to the public. This unique, exclusive and tranquil setting allows guests the opportunity to observe animal interactions from the comfort of the camp without intruding.

A natural hidden gem

Between walks which take place early in the morning and late in the afternoon, take pleasure in the solitude of a hidden camp. The camp is built from canvas and wood with beautiful antiques and silverware giving it the elegance of a bygone era. It overlooks the Timbetene Plain where plains game roams freely, and elephants are seen daily. This positioning allows guests to enjoy unhindered views of animals grazing and interacting without being noticed.

Captivated by your surrounds

The main buildings consist of a spacious wooden deck and firepit with a stylish but straightforward dining tent with white linen and silverware and a lounge furnished with super comfortable leather couches, deep chairs and an honesty bar from which to help yourself. Tents are shaded by Knobthorn trees and cooled by overhead fans. White percale linen and soft bamboo throws make bedtime dreamy.

Honestly, the best

The bar is stocked with water, soft drinks, beers, spirits and liqueurs. Water, soft drinks, beers and house wines are included in the rate and Cellar wines may be ordered from our sister lodge, Rhino Post Safari Lodge. Enjoy sitting in the shade, sipping on a gin and tonic and watching elephants slake their thirst at the reservoir and trough where water is pumped daily.

We invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy nature on its own terms. Enjoy meals and fireside chats with your guide who is hospitable, well-educated and extremely experienced, and takes great pleasure in sharing this special place with you.

A pool with a view

On a hot day, take a dip in the plunge pool and relax on a lounger enjoying a cold beer or iced cold drink all the while keeping an eye out for passing wildlife. On a Winter evening, bundle up warmly and toast your toes around the fire, sip on a hot chocolate or coffee with a kick and listen for the echo of hyenas whooping, or lions roaring in the distance.

Nothing but nature

Enjoy freedom from the pressures of the digital era, and let nature entertain you, while our friendly and enthusiastic staff take care of your needs unobtrusively. Take a luxurious afternoon nap to our background music: the twitter of birds, the buzz of insects and snorts and grunts of antelope, with top notes of elephants trumpeting. Sit on your deck or wallow in the pool and allow nature to engross and captivate you.

Intent on not leaving our mark

Plains Camp runs on battery power, they are charged by a generator in the early mornings and evenings when guests are out on activities. Fans and lights are available 24 hours a day. There are no power points in the rooms for guest use, hairdryers are not available, and own hairdryers cannot be used. This is a wilderness camp with a very low carbon footprint. Batteries and devices can be charged in the dining area.
